Suzanne McKown Education Coordinator

The Suzanne McKown Education Coordinator position, named for the late Suzanne McKown who was a long-time supporter of CCHA, will develop, plan, and conduct programs and events for children and adult audiences to further the mission of CCHA.  This position is part-time and reports directly to the Director of CCHA. 

Among the duties required of this position:

-Create, plan, and conduct educational programs for visitors and student groups. 
-Write curriculum guides for school programs that meet Virginia SOL requirements.
-Develop and provide up-to-date teacher materials for school programs, including research to keep materials up-to-date with SOL requirements.
-Oversee history treasure trunk to bring to local classrooms.
-Work with county Education office and home school groups to develop programs, tours, and materials for the classroom on Clarke County history.
-Assist in the marketing of educational programs and events throughout the year.
-Wear and maintain historical reproduction attire as needed (will be provided by CCHA).
-Work with Director on programs and events scheduling, as well as correspondence with speakers.
-Develop evaluations to get visitor feedback on all events.
-Recruit and train volunteers for programs and events as needed.
-Attend professional development workshops/conferences on museum education hosted by the Virginia Association of Museums.
-Perform light clerical work as needed (answering phones, greeting visitors to the museum, assist in mailings, etc.)
-Assist museum staff on the organization and orderliness of the museum.
-Serve as point person for the museum’s newsletter.
-Other duties as assigned.

Required: Experience teaching/working with students and adults of all abilities particularly with historic programs. Outstanding communication skills, the ability to learn quickly and apply new information, and an appreciation of history.  Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and stand up to 4 hours at a time.  Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, when required.

College degree preferred in one of these fields: History, Education, Library Sciences. 

This is a part-time, 20-hour a week position at a rate of $17 per hour.
